WHISPER FAN FOR PS3 (FAT)
The cooling power of the whisper fan is now available for the Playstation 3. Sony originally included 19 bladed fans in its original Japanese production, but when production started in China there was a switch to a 15 bladed fan of the same type. These fans had lower CFM (cubic feet per minute of air moved) and many people reported that they could make your Playstation run very hot and loud. This fan is a direct replacement for 15 bladed fans. The fan is quieter by several decibels, runs slower (in RPM) creating less high pitched vibration noise. This is a advanced hobbyist and a repair/upgrade product. it requires you to open your PS3 (yes, it voids the warranty).

Fan is a 19 blade “upgrade” fan for the PS3 that is supposed to be quieter than the OEM fan. While there certainly is less noise from the fan spinning, there is a slight grinding/clicking sound coming from the fan (that is actually coming from the fan grinding against the heatsink) which defeats the benefit of having a quieter fan. This fan DOES put out significantly more air, and also seems to be heavier than the OEM.
Upon inspection, i discovered this fan is not balance properly. One side of the fan comes up higher than the other. This creates a vibration when the fan does spin fast, and also causes the slight grinding against the heatsink(which gets louder the faster the fan spins). Upon researching this product, I have come to find that I am not the only one experiencing these issues. The grinding issue can be resolved by using longer screws and washers to add a little distance between the heatsink and the fan, but such workarounds should not be necessary as this fan should have been balanced/manufactured properly from the factory.
Should you choose to upgrade your internal fan to a 19-blade, I would recommend searching out an OEM 19 blade fan, as this fan does not seem to be quality manufactured and may potentially damage your system.

I just installed this in my 60gb PS3, and it runs a lot quieter than my old 15 blade fan. I haven’t had the issues that some of the other users have had. I would definitely recommend this fan if you’re looking for something a bit more quiet.

Works as advertised. Much more quiet then the 15 blade fan that comes with some of the non-slim style PS-3s. Fan fan is so quiet you may not know its on until it ramps up in speed. The only bad review I ever found for this product was from the review here at Amazon. I did not have any problems with installation, vibration, or clearance.

as with the previous review i got this fan for my 40gb ps3 as a replacement i never even tried to install it… the fan is horribly off balance and would vibrate when on…you can see this by spinning the blades around heck you can feel it. i would strongly recommend against buying this fan for your ps3 as vibration is not good especially with machines with hard drives.
