Save yourself some money and purchase a Western Digital 320GB hard drive Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3200BEVT for $50.
Use a USB cable to upload all your PS3 content to your computer, laptop or any portable external hard drive Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive HDDR320E04XW (Vivid White).
Then unplug the power from your PS3 and remove the old hard drive. Place it in a anti-static bag Cables Unlimited ACC-1471 6 x 8-Inch Metalized Anti Static Bags – 10 Pack to protect it from any static electricity and store it in a safe place in case you ever need it.
Install the new 320GB hard drive, plug in the power to your PS3 and then download your PS3 content from whatever device you uploaded it too, to the newly installed PS3 320GB hard drive.

I own 250 GB version of PS3 and know this hardware. It uses standard 2.5 SATA hard drive and it can be upgraded to a larger size HD with no problems.
This item on Amazon is at least twice the normal price for HD. Why you ask? Because it comes as a “kit”, in which standard 320 GB hard drive is
included alone with video instructions and manuals on how to swap HD. So basically you pay $60 for HD and another $60 for instructions. Wow!
Do not fall for the fancy name. Just buy HD alone for at least half the price and Google or Bing (whichever you prefer) instructions (video or text).
Easy, saves you money for new game, accessory or lunch money for a week

The hard drive in a PS3 can be swapped with any 2.5″ SATA hard drive. You can get a 500gb Western Digital drive for half the price of this one.

As others have said save your money and get a regular 2.5 laptop hard drive. I got a 500gb for well under $100.

Please save yourself the money and just buy a laptop harddrive and follow the instruction **that comes with the PS3 user manual**!! If you don’t like reading, just youtube it, there is ton of video on this.
I upgraded two PS3, a launch PS3 60gig and a new PS3 slim, both without problem.
