I was hesitant to give Ms. Royalle a second chance after watching the horribly bad “Stud Hunters”.
To my surprise, “Sensual Escape” was fabulous! The DVD contains two short vignettes. The first scene (28 minutes), starring Nina Hartley and Richard Pacheco, explores the insecurities surrounding a newly-formed middle-aged couple’s first sexual encounter. By using voice-overs, you hear what’s going through the couple’s minds. It’s not too “deep” and it’s enjoyable. The slightly-longer (35 minutes) second skit, with Siobhan Hunter & Steve Lokwood, shows a young woman troubled by a recurring erotic dream involving a stranger. I found it very arousing.
The actors in both vignettes had satisfactory acting ability and were pleasing to the eye. The plots, while very simple, were adequate to hold interest. The soundtrack of the second vignette was so good (erotic and haunting), it’s tempting to buy it.
The movie truly set the tone for a sensual escape. My wife and I both enjoyed it. While this film is adult in nature, most people would not consider it pornographic. If a “mainstream” couple is looking for a “first” erotic film to view together, I wholeheartedly recommend “Sensual Escape”.

The second half of the DVD is a soft erotic masterpiece–Candida Royalle at her very best–an excellent video for couples. The first half, an unimaginative display of graphic sex with few redeeming features, is much less erotic and much less suitable for couples, i.e., a piece more typical of Candida’s recent work.

This is a good movie for couples wishing to begin their exploration of “adult” themed DVDs. The storylines are simple and the actors attractive. You’ll see two people making love in an artistic and creative way. What you won’t see is penetration shots and those things that many find vulgar in porn movies. If a couple is looking for their first shared experience watching an adult movie together, then this is a good choice. It will let you get comfortable together and grow into the movies that are more explicit. Even Candida Royalle has made movies more explicit than this one.
