8 + 8: Best Of 77-80

2008 release, a collection of classic studio and live tracks from the Canadian guitarist. As an aural document of a great Rock band in its live element and firing on all cylinders, it’s damn near impossible to beat! It therefore also represents Pat Travers classic years in the best possible way. As well the eight hard-rockin’ tracks that make up Go For What You Know, 8+8: Best Of ’77-’80 also features a further eight superb s*it-kickin’ studio cuts, including the major American radio hit ‘Snortin’ Whiskey’ and Travers’ funky cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’ . All together, this makes up a fantastic over view of Travers peak period and is a great intro for any Blues-Rock fan. Ork.

    5 Stars = Masterpiece

“8+8″ is worth the buy & the star rating just for the great remaster of “Go For What You Know.” Gone is the poorly mastered original recording that was all mid range & highs. This remaster has balls! Get it while you can!

Below is a review just for “Go For What You know.”

Take everything I stated about the last three albums (“Making Magic,” “Putting it Straight,” & “Heat in the Street”) & turn it up a notch. The funk, the speed, the technical skill, the song writing! “Go for What You Know” is a live album to end all live albums. Here is a band that is so driven by their kinetic funk/metal energy that the sounds in this album threaten to overwhelm the listener. Riffs, leads, bass lines, drums exploding through the stratosphere anchored down to a funky killer groove! I’ll not go into song by song as the other reviews, for all is a funky whole on this album. Even the classic blues of “Boom Boom (Out goes the Lights)” is a high energy masterpiece. No duds here! PT exited the 70′s with an Icon & legacy that many bands in the late 80′s would be inspired by. This man & his band are the link from Hendrix to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, King’s X, Extreme, Living Colour, just to name a few. His work is essential for anyone wanting to understand where this type of music came from. A true master & original, Pat Travers.

It really bothers me when a remaster becomes available and no one speaks about the remastering. If you love the “Go for what you know live” you havent heard it until now…Stunning remastering! Finally a huge upgrade albeit buried in strange packaging and in combination with an unrelated collection of studio tunes. If you want an upgrade sonically of any of these tunes get it.

If you like the hard charging PT,there is no better collection available. And like the other review indicated this is a high quality re-master.
