World War II Newsreels Of Battle Action In The South Pacific
During World War II, the United States Government financed its own newsreel for overseas viewers, entitled “THE UNITED NEWSREEL.” These government-produced newsreels, shown in U.S. theaters and abroad, averaged 10 minutes in length and consisted of several short stories concerning allied military operations in the various theatres of war, as well as stories of events taking place on the U.S. home front. The film footage used in the newsreels was shot by military combat photographers. This DVD’s focus is on the War in the South Pacific during 1942 to 1943. Among the subjects are: U.S. and Australian troops at New Guinea, Guadalcanal; Battle of Midway; Marines at Camp Pendleton, Bougainville, Tarawa.
