Killers

A VACATIONING WOMAN MEETS HER IDEAL MAN, LEADING TO A SWIFT MARRIAGE. BACK AT HOME, HOWEVER, THEIR IDYLLIC LIFE IS UPSET WHEN THEY DISCOVER THEIR NEIGHBORS COULD BE ASSASSINS WHO HAVE BEEN CONTRACTED TO KILL THE COUPLE.Killers has been murdered by most film critics, and the box-office receipts haven’t been too impressive either. But that’s kind of a bad rap. Granted, it isn’t likely to make many year’s best (or even month’s best) lists, but this is an entertaining little diversion that at the very least offers an appealing cast, a few laughs, and some cool chase scenes. Katherine Heigl plays Jen, who, having recently been dumped by her boyfriend, is vacationing in Nice with her parents (Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara). Enter Spencer (Ashton Kutcher), a hired assassin (hey, it’s a comedy) who happens to be on the scene for a job. The couple’s cutesy flirting turns into a romantic dinner, which leads to some heavy drinking… and before you know it, Spencer has renounced the killing gig, married Jen, and moved back to her hometown in the States, where he becomes a “corporate consultant.” Three years later his past catches up to him, as we knew it would, and a seemingly limitless array of hired guns emerges from the woodwork, intent on collecting the million bounty that’s been put on Spencer’s head. Exactly why this is, and who’s responsible for it, are secrets revealed only at the end, although perspicacious viewers will no doubt have seen it coming. In the meantime, Spencer’s revelation of who he really is and Jen’s reaction to it are mildly reminiscent of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-Jamie Lee Curtis relationship in True Lies, as issues of trust, safety, and Jen’s newly discovered pregnancy complicate Spencer’s attempts to keep the two of them alive while he tries to figure out what’s going on. Director Robert Luketic displays a sure hand during the action sequences, but he’s working with a thin script and a pair of attractive young actors whose chemistry doesn’t exactly burn up the screen. Those are serious drawbacks, but all in all, there are far worse ways to kill a couple of hours than watching Killers. –Sam Graham

From my wife Sarah: An unsuspecting, nerdy and innocent but beautiful character played by Katherine Heigl and a government hit man played by Ashton Kutcher fall in love. Kutcher’s character gives up the spy life to marry a woman he can trust, choosing a normal but blissful suburbian life. That is until Kutcher’s handler tries to reactivate him three years later. Chaos insues in this fun and charming movie.

There are enough holes in the story to strain spagetti. If you try to think about it logically for even a moment you’ll feel morally bound to hate this movie. Yet it was very entertaining. There was definitely some magic between Heigl and Kutcher, and though much of this movie was unbelievable, their relationship wasn’t. Add to that some really good humor, action, a desperate situation, and the charisma, magnetism and attractiveness of the stars, and you’ve got a fun comedy/love story.

Catherine O’Hara can pretty much do no wrong in my book, and she was hilarious as Heigl’s lush of a mom. Tom Selleck was great as her dad.

We were entertained all the way through, and found watching this movie to be a great way to relax and pass some time. I would certainly recommend this movie if that’s something you’re looking for.

2010′s romantic comedy “Killers” features Katherine Heigl as Jen Kornfeldt, recovering from a failed relationship by joining her overprotective parents (a well-cast Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara) on a vacation to the French Riviera. On an elevator ride in the hotel, Jen meets a handsome young man, who after some nicely awkward banter, introduces himself as Spencer Aimes, traveling consultant. In fact, Spencer is a secret agent, whose job is to terminate bad guys. Spencer falls for the open and honest Jen, and leaves his unnamed agency to be with her.

As Spencer’s handler warns him at their last meeting, you don’t just walk away from the secret agent business. Flash forward three years, to a married Jen and Spencer, juggling various committments, and Spencer’s birthday party, in a nice, safe suburban neighborhood. Spencer’s secret past suddenly catches up with him. The properly paranoid Spencer fears danger around every corner, and finds he has a lot of explaining to do, as he and Jen go on the run.

“Killers” plays out as an interesting combination of romantic comedy and action thriller, verging at times on broad farce. Threats come from the most unlikely directions, while Jen and Spencer debate the strained status of their marriage. Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher are an attractive combination, nicely balanced against the hilarious couple portrayed by Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara. “Killers” is highly recommended, despite its title, as good light fun.

This much maligned action comedy isn’t nearly as bad as it was made out to be, in fact it’s a good bit better than the strangely more popular Date Night. The premise behind it seems to be to dress up a dark, Coen Brothers style black comedy with a coat of slick, rom-com veneer, and while that’s not wholly successfully, it’s well-played by the two leads and never boring. The action scenes may not be thrilling, but they’re executed in a cartoon-y fashion that doesn’t distract by being overly violent. Katherine Heigl plays that Hollywood mainstay; the gratingly insecure knockout. She’s quite good at it, too, and when the story jumps ahead in time, she’s believably more confident and secure. Ashton Kutcher always strikes me as a little smug, but he’s likable. Normally, watching couples squabble onscreen is always draining, even when it’s supposed to be funny (see the aforementioned Date Night), but I didn’t mind it here. The two have a strong chemistry. Plus, the production makes effective usage of some stunning locales. I don’t want to over-sell it. Keep expectations low and enjoy.

i am sure there are enough cynics in the world who would totally hate this movie, but i for one could care less about those guys, cause i loved the movie!!! :-) heres the breakdown on the flick its about a girl played by katherine heigl whose on a trip to france with her parents, tom selleck and catherine o’hara, (whom i thought were wonderful as the parents) cause she got dumped by her geek boyfriend douche bag, but lucky for her cause she meets real love in the form of ashton kutcher, whom she does not know is a spy but he quits the life for her cause he wants a normal life and a family. anyways this does not sit well with his boss cause he wants him to stay in the game. in 3 years later living the suburban life he gets unexpected mail from his boss saying he wants him back he still denies him and now theres a 20 million dollar contract out for him!, and the friends he thought he knew are out to get him. so thats my summary of the movie, a very funny film and i enjoyed it very much! :-D it probably will not be enjoyed by many people expecting more from a ashton kutcher movie, i mean come on its kelso! dont expect too much from this guy, its just an open fun movie that people with open minds will enjoy!

I watched it last night..twice. Lets just get the basic BAD’s over with.

Catherine O’Hara – playing the drunk mom…yet again…Just like she did in Orange County. BUT..She pulls it off and is funny doing it. So it’s not so bad.

Yes, it can be said it is similar to Mr and Mrs Smith. But in this story, only HE is the ex-hitman and she actually ends up doing pretty well (bumbling the whole way) but still keeps up with him, staying alive.

That’s about all that I felt was bad.

Who is upset that they got to see Katherine Heigl in lingerie? Or girls, you got to see Ashton not only in swimwear, doing action scenes and he played a guy that no matter what, he just kept trying to do the right thing for his wife? His character is a GOOD guy.

Cameo’s by supporting cast/comedians was a nice change of pace.

Deleted scenes, Extended scenes, Alternate scenes, Behind the scenes and a Gag reel – Are not bad. There was enough there to feel I spent my $$ ok and wasn’t shorted much like many other Bluray films these days.

I feel the 3 star reviews and lower are just not fair.

    4 stars in my review.
